| I found this on facebook, but thought it needed posting here. Especially after hearing all the stories about "the Cane Toad Video".
For Chase and Jenny:
You know you grew up in Chapel Hill if more than 5 of these apply to you...
Your family's standard drinking cups were the plastic Carolina ones you collected at sporting events.
You know that d-o-o-k is the correct spelling of that school in Durham.
You cringe whenever you see a new subdivision go up in town.
When your family went out for ice cream, you went to Swenson's, not Dairy Queen.
At least once each winter, you heard a transplanted northerner make fun of southerners for overreacting to snow.
At least once each summer, you observed a transplanted northerner overreacting to the heat and humidity.
At some time in your life, you had a teacher who hung a Carolina basketball calendar poster in your classroom.
You know how to pronounce Seawell and Ephesus.
You know what Seawell and Ephesus are.
You, or your parents, had to cross over the county line to do any major shopping.
You find it annoying when you hear people talking about Carolina football and it turns out they're talking about the Panthers.
You thought 1300 was an average SAT score. (when it was a total of 1600.)
You think of Chapel Hill as it was in your childhood as the "real Chapel Hill."
In your heart of hearts, you TRULY BELIEVE that Chapel Hill IS the 'Southern Part of Heaven.'
You have jumped over a bonfire on Franklin St. after UNC won a big game.
You went to Michael Jordan's restaurant, 23, before it turned into a beauty institute.
You have been to Time-Out at 3 in the morning and knew at least 5 people there.
You remember NBA stars as fresh-faced college kids before they had their own sports brand and were making 6 figures.
You know what 'Dillo is and you go there on a regular basis even though it's incredibly over-priced.
You have never paid for parking downtown because you are familiar with every back alley, free lot, and broken parking meter.
You still miss the Wicked Burrito.
You remember the Intimate Bookshop, Record Bar, Earth Shoe store, Leo's, Huggins Hardware, and Jeff's - all on one street.
You remember Apple Chill BEFORE there was an After Chill.
When ACC Tournament friday is considered an unofficial holiday, and either teachers let you watch the games, or you secretly listen to the radio while in class.
You have been to a birthday party at the FARM.
You still call it "Wellspring" rather than Whole Foods.
You will always call it Airport Road.
You played on a Rainbow Soccer team.
You have seen the Cane Toad video at least twice.
You've watched fireworks in Kenan Stadium on the 4th of July.
Dubey's Pet World and Take Ten were the highlight of U-Mall.
When Halloween is the holiday everyone looks forward to most.
You've managed to make it to Cosmic Cantina multiple times at 2am.
You go to 'Sunrise' before class, school, work, or a road trip.
You understand the full importance of the phrase "He's Not Here."
You remember Mio's Pizza before it was Alfredo's. You remember Tony's Pizza before it was Mio's.
You remember the Trolley on Franklin St. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| Your Score: Myrna LoyYou scored 19% grit, 47% wit, 19% flair, and 30% class! You are loaded with a quirky kind of class that people find irresistable. Men turn and look at you admiringly as you walk down the street, and even your rivals have a grudging respect for you. You usually know the right thing to say, do and, of course, wear. You can take charge of a situation when things get out of hand, and you do it with great poise and chic. Your wit and sense of fun endear you to your partner and every other man in the room. Your screen partners include William Powell and Cary Grant. You're quite a catch...if you want to be caught.

| raced in my first triathlon ever this weekend. it involved running through the hillsborough sportsplex parking lot at 9:15AM Sunday morning soaking wet in my bathing suit with no shoes on. i think i remember yelling something like "holy $%&@ its cold!" as i ran from the pool to my bike, but then all of my extremities went numb. in fact, it wasn't until a mile into the two mile run that my feet warmed up enough for me to realize i had a rock in my shoe. by then i only had a mile left before the whole thing was finished, so i just kept on going.
final results: 250M swim: 2nd place out of the women, 6th overall 11.6 mile bike: 70th place (out of women) 2 mile run: 50th place (out of women) overall: 53rd out of 107 women
next time, i probably should get a road bike - although i was the only person with a bike bell, it didn't help me a lot up those hills. but it sure did sound cheery! | comments: Leave a comment |

| i overheard this conversation while waiting for my dad to come out of the operation room at the cardiac lab a couple weeks ago. read with a southern accent:
woman1: oh we had a tough deacon election this past sunday man1: mmhmm! woman1: and it was too bad john couldn't be there. he's such a sweet man man2: oh i know, and he's so involved in the church. woman2: oh and it is too bad about his wife judy-ann. woman1: oh, i know. why did you know that when she first went blind, i hear he took a day off from the farm and went to the Belk's counter in Rocky Mount... woman2, nodding: he did. woman1: and he went up to the make-up counter there at belk's and he asked those girls to teach him how to put on make-up. woman2: it was the sweetest thing i'd ever heard, he asked them to teach him how to put on judy-ann's make-up so she could still look nice when she went to church woman1: and she does look so nice, i think she might look better than me...
and they all mmhmmm'ed and ahh'ed in agreement and i think i nearly cried it was so romantic. | comments: 6 comments or Leave a comment |
| hi all, as some of you may know, my dad recently had a heart attack (his first). he is currently recovering well - he got out of the hospital about a week ago, and he went to rehab orientation today, which he said he enjoyed. although the experience was very scary, i was very moved by the level of kindness, caring, and concern from my friends and extended family. this event may make my dad change his lifestyle in terms of diet and exercise, but it has probably changed mine in terms of the level of appreciation and value i have for even the smallest kindnesses and charity of others.
thank you extra special very much to jennifermeyer, who met me at the hospital door and walked me to the cardiac cath lab when we didn't even know if he had made it, and thanks to bill for his email and words of comfort. | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| | ok, so, whatever i said about william not cooking his burger all the way through... that was wrong. it turns out that e. coli has an incubation period of about four days, and he got sick within 12 hours of not cooking his burger all the way through. HOWEVER, all of the other unc students who had gotten e.coli (which there are now about 8), they all ate at McAlister's... and it turns out that about four days prior to william getting e.coli, he ate at McAlister's. Sooo... although my brother's still probably going to cook his burgers all the way through anyways from now, his intelligence has now been vindicated. also, i don't recommend eating at McAlister's for a while right now... although it was one of my prefered destinations when i was at unc. bummer. | comments: Leave a comment |
| william is doing much better now, although there have been quite a few newspaper articles about the various UNC students that have had e. coli in the past couple weeks, and he's one of 'em.
